The heart’s blood supply comes from the coronary arteries, which branch off from the aorta. These arteries deliver oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle (myocardium) to keep it functioning. The two main coronary arteries are the left and right coronary arteries.

The left coronary artery further divides into the left anterior descending (LAD) and circumflex arteries, which supply the front and left side of the heart. The right coronary artery supplies the right side and parts of the back of the heart. After oxygen is used, deoxygenated blood is carried away by coronary veins, which drain into the right atrium.
