Photosynthesis is the process plants use to make their own food. It happens in the leaves, where plants absorb sunlight using a pigment called chlorophyll. They take in carbon dioxide from the air through tiny pores in their leaves and water from the soil through their roots. With sunlight as the energy source, plants convert these into glucose (a type of sugar) and oxygen.
